The Curriculum
What We Teach
The whole singer: healthy technique, musicianship, communication and the confidence to practise independently.
The curriculum develops the whole singer: healthy vocal function, musicianship, communication and independent learning. Lessons are planned around the student's current priorities, and progress is recorded against clear, level-appropriate criteria in the Voice Loft Portal.
Vocal Health & Coordination
Comfortable, efficient singing built through healthy habits, appropriate warm-ups, breathing and airflow, resonance choices, vowel clarity, register coordination and useful range development.
Pitch & Listening
Matching and maintaining notes, hearing melodic direction and intervals, echoing accurately and gradually developing the listening skills needed to notice and adjust independently.
Rhythm & Musicianship
Feeling and sustaining pulse, fitting words to phrases, understanding notation and musical patterns, and using listening, reading and creative tasks to become a more independent musician.
Repertoire & Expression
Applying developing skills to appropriately chosen songs through phrasing, dynamics, tone colour, style, meaning and communication — without asking the voice to do more than it is ready for.
Words, Vowels & Clarity
Clear, natural diction that supports rather than interrupts singing. Students explore vowels, consonants, articulation and text so words remain understandable without unnecessary jaw, tongue or throat tension.
Confidence & Independent Practice
Building genuine confidence through preparation, performance experience and reflection. Students learn how to follow a short, agreed practice plan and take increasing ownership of their musical development.
